Transporting Ammunition To Africa

All ammunition must  be packed and transported in a lockable ammo box placed within your checked luggage.

Only a manufacturer's carton is no longer sufficient. Remember that there is also a limit of five kilograms of ammo per passenger.

That includes the weight of your ammo box. Do not forget to declare your ammo at check-in.

Thomas Bland & Sons® are once again producing the finest quality bolt-action rifles. Each rifle is guaranteed to shoot 1 inch groups at 100 yards using best quality factory ammunition (avoid the hassle of spending hours to work up loads which will shoot properly) and quality optics.  Each rifle will be hand made and precision  finished to your specifications, either wood or fiber glass stocks using the best components available. Calibers, barrel length and weight may be adjusted as you require.

Each rifle will be furnished in a case with the remaining cartridges and the pattern which was achieved with your gun. Each rifle will come standard with sling mounts and a custom made Tomlin silent sling.

Production time is expected to run 1 to 3 months for a standard rifle. Special order rifles with superior engraving, gold inlays and custom fitted leather or oak and leather cases will vary by the job.

We shall have a 25-06, 7-MM Remington Magnum and a 380 Winchester in stock shortly.

                             Thomas Bland Signature Rifle

 

Up until the early part of the 20th century, Thomas Bland & Sons produced quality rifles for the hunting and shooting fraternity. These weapons were considered to be among the finest in the World; but production slowed when the firearms market shifted to shotguns. Thomas and his sons were not slow to pick up on the market trends, and as a result, rifle and pistol production took a back seat, eventually ceasing altogether. The Bland customers who come to our shooting and custom shotgun facility have expressed a keen interest in acquiring rifles of the same quality and workmanship they experience with our shotguns.

What we at Thomas Bland and Sons have been encouraged to do is once again start producing the finest, most accurate, custom hunting and target rifles on the market today. These rifles are built to customer specifications using the finest materials and smith'd by the finest gunsmith in the country and are superior to any rifle found on the market today. We will also produce rifles for select factory ammunition which are guaranteed to shoot sub minute of angle groups, out of the box.

Our nineteenth century rifles were made and regulated to shoot factory ammunition as quality reloading equipment and supplies was not available in the mid twentieth century. Many double rifles would not “regulate” their barrels or lost their accuracy once the original factory ammunition for which they were manufactured was no longer available.

Today, several ammunition makers have created quality hunting and target ammunition in a variety of calibers and bullet weights, these include: Federal Premium, Hornaday Custom, Winchester Supreme, Remington Premier and Black Hills Gold. Our custom rifles are crafted to produce sub minute of angle groups using these brands of quality ammunition. If the customer hand loads his / her ammunition, Blands gunsmith can craft a rifle which will surpass sub minute of angle accuracy.

 

GRADES OF RIFLES OFFERED:

 

PREMIER

Any caliber chosen by the customer, select wood stock, Gold inlay, select serial number (POR). These rifles generally range from $ 30,000 to $75,000 USD, and will take from twelve to eighteen months for delivery.

                                                                                                               

“SIGNATURE SERIES'

IN .375 H&H MAGNUM, WITHOUT MUZZLE BRAKE,

BUT WITH EDWARDS RECOIL REDUCERS INSTALLED.

Any caliber chosen by the customer, carbon fiber or blended stock; Nesika action; Vais or Gentry muzzle brake. Shilen trigger, Lilja barrel, Swarovski scope with Talley rings and bases. These rifles range from $ 10,000 to $ 15,000 depending on customer selected options. Delivery time, 4 to 8 months.

 

'SIGNATURE SERIES' ULTRA LIGHT HUNTER

Any caliber chosen by the customer with a carbon fiber stock, fluted Lilja barrel, (1 to 4 contour), Vias muzzle brake, Shilen trigger, Talley rings and mounts and Swarovski scope (any power range), complete, weighing between 6 and 7 1/2 pounds. The ultra light hunter is priced between $ 10,000 and $ 15,000 depending on upgrade options. Delivery time, 4 to 8 months.

 

VARMINT AND TARGET

Any caliber chosen by the customer, carbon fiber or blended stock, Nesika action, Shilen trigger, Lilja heavy barrel, Swarovski scope with Talley rings and bases. These rifles range from $10,500 to $16,500, depending on customer selected options. Muzzle brake can be added if customer desires. Delivery time, 4 to 8 months.

 

MATERIALS USED IN THE MANUFACTURE OF OUR RIFLES:

SCOPE:

All Thomas Bland rifles come with a Swarovski Rifle Scope (or a scope and mounts of your choice) in the power range selected by the customer, mounted using Conetrol Mounts and rings or Dave Talley Rings and Bases as standard equipment. The customer can have his / her personal riflescope mounted, or select another make / model for mounting.

 

ACTION:

Thomas Bland recommends the Nesika action with Shilen trigger for all series rifles, both hunting and Varmint / Target models, and in all grades. We will however, build to customer specifications using any action or trigger system requested (POR).

 

TRIGGER:

While the Bland Gunsmith uses the Shilen triggers due to their sturdy construction and range of adjustment, we also provide Timney, Canjar or Jewell triggers per customer request.

 

BARREL:

We use Lilja Premium barrels on our product, unless the customer has a specific request. We do this because Lilja produces the highest quality, most consistent product on the market today. These barrels come either fluted or non-fluted, in various profile configurations, lengths, and rates of twist. Unless the customer specifically requests a certain rate of twist, length and taper, the configuration of the delivered barrel and rifle will be determined by the customers discussion with our gunsmith.

 

STOCK:

Our product is designed to be the most rugged, accurate hunting rifle available on the market. To accomplish this, we recommend the use of carbon fiber or blended stocks. The carbon fiber or blended stocks will be delivered in any color, texture, or pattern the customer desires. There are other materials such as laminated wood, metal, or exhibition grade woods which we can use for stock material. We pillar bed each rifle, attach a muzzle brake, recoil pad and sling swivels, as standard features. The Edwards recoil reducer system can be installed in all our rifles, and is recommended for Magnum calibers where the customer does not desire a muzzle brake. Length of Pull adjustment will be made per customer request, and the drop of the stock is handled through adjustment of the height of the scope rings. We also stand ready to work with the customer to create any configuration he /she desires.

                                                                                                               

ADDITIONAL CUSTOMER SERVICES:

Thomas Bland and Sons stands behind our product 100%. We also provide other services the customer may request. We will zero the rifle and provide sample targets and ammunition lot numbers best suited for his / her rifle. We can also provide a complete cleaning kit with rod enclosed in an aluminum travel case, and attendant hunting equipment such as range finders, binoculars, etc. requested by the customer.

Special leather cases may be provided, each hand made in England by T.E.G. the finest case makers in the world. Each case is individually made to order by T.E.G. and may be finished as directed by the client.

BLAND DOUBLE RIFLES

 

  Thomas Bland & Sons Gunmakers® Ltd. have had a long and storied history of manufacturing some of the finest double rifles in the world and are continuing this tradition to this day. Following is a bit about the rifle which is being produced entirely in England and has British Proof.

  Our rifle is a double barreled boxlock ejector designed to deal with dangerous game while offering 100% reliability, it is very strong, trouble free and has two independent firing systems and non automatic manual safety catch.

  The action is constructed of special steel and has "Holland" type scroll fences for added strength and is fitted with disc set strikers in case of needed replacement in the field without having to completely strip the rifle. A removable joint pin is also fitted to help re-jointing and is available in different sizes so that any future tightening can be done with ease anywhere in the world.

  The action has a head design suitable to fit side plates should they be desired, either with or without a detachable pin.

  The large trigger plate conceals two simple firing mechanisms powered by unbreakable coil springs for safety, internal safes include hammer block and rebounding hammers, trigger pulls are set on the high side for safety.

  Barrels are chrome molly and target quality fitted to a mono-block system, this means that any tubes may be fitted. Normal caliber is .470 NE but 375 H&H, 416 Rigby etc. are no problem. They may even be fitted with a shotgun barrels in 20 or 16 bore should this option be desired. They are zeroed in at 60 yards, barrels are normally 24 inches long. The sights are blade front and triple ladder rear sights. The guns will receive Birmingham Proof.

  The design may also include scope mounting, a zero wedge is provided.

  The stock is typical with cheek piece and recoil pad. Spares may be fitted beneath the pad. The weight will be about 12 pounds. The figure of the wood may be ordered as desired.

   Every effort is being made to produce a versatile gun, it can be manufactured in most caliber's, set up for a left handed top lever, sideplated, plain or ornate. Engraving may be as desired, the action may be colour hardened. The standard model is " The Cape " which will include best colour hardened action and related hardware, best blacking, 40% engraving, medium stock fitted in a leather trunk case is £11,000.00 plus shipping and US Customs. Delivery time is about 6 to 8 months at the moment. Better figured wood and more engraving may be provided at an additional cost if desired. The deluxe model is " The Cape II " is fitted with chopper lump barrels and will cost £3,000.00 extra and will require an additional 4 months to manufacture. The Cape II will also be fully engraved, fitted with side plates if desired and a very well figured stock.
