Shooting in Africa

Have a Fantastic First Class African Plains Game Shoot at less cost that your average one animal US Shoot

and you will be in superb accommodations not a flea bag Motel (at best)

There is only so much time allotted to each of us: Use it wisely

If you are interested in having one of the finest experiences in your life please contact us here at Woodcock Hill for a brochure and CD showing you the lovely Kirabo Game Lodge and the fantastic shooting offered.  You may call  us at (570) 864-3242 or send us an e-mail at bland@epix.net. and we shall get an information off to you promptly.

Woodcock Hill Inc. Is now the United States representative for Kirabo Safaris in South Africa. Kirabo is entirely owned and operated by the Wentzel Family, headed by Victor and Marina. The head of the hunting staff and a first class PH is their Son Jaco. Jaco will organize your days on Safari and see that everything runs without any problems. Hanneke and Sonika, the very beautiful daughters who quietly keep the business and PR end of things going along with their Husbands and Children.  The Wentzel Family are in our opinion the finest and fairest priced operators of Plains Game and Cape Buffalo Shoots in South Africa. Everyone connected with Kirabo you will find brings sunshine into the room. If you do not leave Kirabo with a smile on your face, a taxidermy bill that gives you chest pains (meaning that you have had fantastic Safari) and dreaming of your next visit to Kirabo then there is something wrong with you. You will find that the folks at Kirabo have a unique ability to make each and every visitor, young or old feel as if they are a member of their Family and a part of Kirabo and South Africa.

Kirabo Lodge is located in a magnificent area of South Africa with a beautiful lodge and superb hunting grounds. It is in our opinion four star accommodations. The only thing which beats the accommodations and the ability to take a record book animal weather by rifle or bow is the hospitality of the Wentzel family which own and operate Kirabo lodge.

You are made welcome and treated as if you are a member of the family from the moment you first speak with the folks at Kirabo. There are certainly many choices when it comes to going on a Safari but in our opinion there is no place which will make you more welcome and provide the opportunity for you to have a very successful safari. Visiting South Africa and spending time at Kirabo is like shooting Driven Birds in Scotland, once you do it, you can not wait to get back for another visit.

Bow Hunting

Kirabo Game Lodge provides clients with exceptional bow hunting opportunities. Two hunting methods are provided. The use of conventional hides/blinds or walking and stalking, the choice is completely up to the client.

Hunting from Blinds

We offer the patient hunter the opportunity to experience the African bush in the comfort of a functionally designed hide. Our hides provide an 120 degree shooting angle, using one of three shooting holes, in order to maximize the opportunity of getting your ideal trophy, and also to enable you to acquire the perfect line for your arrow. The inclusion of one way mirrors in the hides provide an 360 degree of sight right around the near vicinity of the blind, which enables the hunter to observe the superb species of the African Bushveld in their natural surroundings. Most of our trophies are hunted from blinds.

African Shooting Sticks - Take Down Version

The new take-down version of our African Shooting Sticks is designed to fit into any airline approved gun case. Now you can use the same set of sticks to hunt kudu in the summer, whitetails in the fall and Turkeys from a blind in the spring (more on that later).

There is a reason why every African PH brings a set of these along for the client; because they are so easy to use and effective. We have improved upon the very basic “3 sticks bound together with inner tube” with our custom made versions that combine the finest raw materials available with unmatched craftsmanship.
View all African Shooting Stick Versions

Several years ago we began experimenting with a connector that we could use to make take-down shooting sticks. We developed dozens of take-down connector prototypes over the years but for one reason or another they did not meet our criteria…we wanted them to have a very strong, positive locking system and be very easy to put together/take apart with your bare hands. Most importantly, we wanted the addition of the connector to increase the rigidity and strength of the shafts.

Well, the wait is finally over! These are the most rigid, quiet and functional African Shooting Sticks on the market. Our customers tell us they like the rigidity of them which allows them to lean into the shot, how the noise suppression bumpers eliminate the “dinner bell” noise made by the legs of all-aluminum models clanking together and how the hardened steel points on the bottoms anchor them securely in place.

Here at Sporting Wood Creations we make over 200 custom-made items including "Best Quality" African shooting sticks, Warthog Tusk Gun Racks and other Safari Inspired Creations. We also offer an extensive array of antique spears, shields and other authentic collectibles. Welcome to our site, and we hope you find something that will allow you to proudly “Display your Passion”.

Buffalo Hunts

Buffalo

Two Buffalo hunting options:

Buffalo A:   Hunting buffalo bulls on location at Kirabo, or nearby

Buffalo B: Hunting buffalo bulls at Mpumalanga and Northern Limpopo

We recommend that we do the Mpumalanga, Northern Limpopo hunts on the edge of the Kruger Park.

The buffalo will be hunted in an area of about 1500 acres. The hunt will be done by means of walking and stalking.

Trophy Fee:     $ 13000 for buffalo, that includes a free warthog, and you get a 50%

Discount on an Impala.

Daily Rate:      $ 450 per day while hunting Buffalo, hunting 1 on 1. After moving to

Kirabo the daily fee will be $ 350 per day (hunting 1 on 1), or $ 275 per

day (hunting 2 on 1).

The arrival day and departure day, counts as 1 day @ $ 350.

Planning the Hunt

Time of year for above Safari: May - September

 1. Schedule

              1.    Arrive at Johannesburg International Airport, and drive to Nelspruit, Mpumalanga Province. It is a 3.5 hours drive from Johannesburg. Arrive and stay at the hunting camp for the first part of the hunt, until we’ve shot the Buffalo (2-4 Days hunt).

2)    After hunting the Buffalo, we leave for Kirabo Game Lodge, to hunt for plains game. It is a 6-hour drive from Nelspruit to Kirabo in the Limpopo Province.

All the transport is included in the above tariffs.  At both hunting locations accommodation in luxury lodges will be provided.

When we have some indication on what species the client wishes to hunt, we can prepare a more detailed schedule and quotation.

              2.         Rifle

The minimum caliber will be a .375 H&H. The recommended rifle is a 416 Rigby.

                  3.         Medication

If we hunt all the animals at Kirabo, no medication needs to be taken. If the client prefers to hunt the buffalo in Mpumalanga, he will need to take Malaria medication. We also have all the plains game to offer during your big game hunt.

Other Activates available at Kirabo

Wildlife Experience

Game drives and bush walks are part of the leisure and wildlife experience at the lodge. Explore the untamed bush in open-air vehicles where various species of antelope and other African mammals including giraffe, zebra, eland, gemsbuck, blue wildebeest, kudu, red hartebeest, impala and warthog, to name just a few, can be seen. Bring along your camera, to capture some unforgettable moments.

A visit to the Nyala breeding facility is also highly recommended. Here you will have the opportunity to come within meters of these beautiful animals.

Bird Watching

A variety of bird species can be spotted in the near vicinity of the Lodge including Kori Bustard, which is the largest flying bird in Africa. Guests may also visit a site on the banks of the Limpopo river (Botswana border), only 15 km from the Lodge.

Relaxation

Enjoy the warmth of the African sun next to the tranquil pool or relax on the upper deck, from where you have a bird’s eye view on the nearby waterhole, where the different species of game visit to quench their thirst or just take a mud bath.

Star-gazing

This is open-sky-country which offers excellent star-gazing conditions through out the year.

Longitude-Latitude Crossing

The 24° east longitude and 27° south latitude cross a mere 500 meters from the lodge and this spot can be visited on foot. Some confluences enthusiasts have visited this point on more than one occasion. One such visit is recorded at www.confluence.org.

Day Trips

Day trips to the nearby Marakele National Park where the “Big Five” are at home, as well as the world-renowned Sun City and Pilansberg can be arranged.
